Backgammon Board Setup Considerations
Aside from the backgammon board setup itself we have to understand other considerations in backgammon at its beginning stage. In this game we have to strategize our win tactics from beginning to end. Mid and end play can go smoothly when we have a smooth start.
First, we need to know how to correctly setup the board. Nothing meaningful will come out of our play unless we setup the board the right way. We need to know what points to set up our pieces on in the beginning of a game and how many each point.
We also need to know the different parts of a backgammon board. For instance, we need to know what points are. These are steep triangles that act us spaces where we move our pieces on. We need to identify the different types of points we can form on the board the open, blot, builder, anchor, and prime points.
After a proper backgammon board setup and knowledge about the parts of the board we need to know how to move checker pieces. With this are the initial strategies we need to move out our pieces towards our home board safely. Here comes the use of point types such as blots, primes, and anchors. From initial moves after setup also comes positioning for strategies for the next phase of the game.
Win strategies during the mid and end play are really based on how well we prepared during the initial moves. Thus, in a sense, board setup is not just how we arrange pieces on the board before a game is played but also how we set it up in preparation for later strategies. There is the initial setup or formation, then the secondary setup. The initial formation is how we prepare our pieces as we move them out of the enemy home board to accomplish our second formation which is the systematic occupation of our home board.
Note then that the end is largely determined by our beginning. This is true not only in backgammon but also in chess and American checkers. Everything is hinged on how well our primary preparation is. Hence, board setup should also consider initial moves and later strategies. Overall, from basic setup of pieces on the board to eventual set up for win strategies, the game should be seen from various angles.
Backgammon board setup, land based or online, should always be comprehensive. It should consider the game from start to finish.
